Cleveland Orchestra Bass Quartet

The Cleveland Orchestra Bass Quartet, made up of (from left) Scott Dixon, Derek Zadinsky, Charles Paul, and Mark Atherton – members of The Cleveland Orchestra’s double bass section – has performed numerous programs at concert venues, schools, and community events. They explore a bass quartet repertoire that includes original works as well as arrangements of favorite classical pieces, giving these bassists the opportunity to step out from the orchestra’s foundational role and into the melodic spotlight.

Zentangle Art Program Workshop

Have you ever doodled during a meeting? Then, you will love this Zentangle workshop, taught by Judy Montgomery! Zentangle designs are repeated patterns that, when combined, create beautiful art. The art patterns will be taught step by step, and participants will learn an assortment of tangles and will create Zentangle tiles of their own. As it can be very meditative, Zentangle can help calm and center, as well as add a lot of fun to one’s life!

The Golden Age of Shlomo Katz

Please join us for a guided tour of the Shlomo Katz exhibit. As a young man, Katz went to Paris where he studied art at Ecole des Beauz-Arts. Inspired by medieval icons and Asian miniatures, he developed an original technique of painting by applying oil on top of gold leaf. The result was a combination of deep vibrant colors combined with a metallic surface that glowed, forming a totally new modern image filled with light. "The Golden Age" is the first exhibition of Katz's work since his death in March 1992 in Holon, Israel.

Degas and the Laundress: Women, Work and Impressionism

A docent-led tour of impressionist artist Edgar Degas' representation of Parisian laundresses. These working class women were a visible presence in the city, washing and ironing in shops open to the street or carrying heavy baskets of clothing. Their job was among the most difficult and poorly paid at the time, forcing some laundresses to supplement their income through sex work. Degas created about 30 depictions of laundresses, a selection of which is united for the first time in this exhibition.
