Biography
Stephen Calhoun is an iterative artist working with cameras, video, and digital tools. Self-trained, his complex and accessible artworks were discovered by Cleveland gallerist Deba Grey in 2014. She presented his debut one-person exhibit in 2016-2017. His work was the subject of a cover feature in the CAN Journal in March 2019. He has exhibited widely in solo, group and juried shows in the region, including at The BCC in July 2018.
He maintains a studio in Cleveland Heights, where most of his photographic sources are constructed and photographed. To this end, he is flower gardener.
"My art’s aim is to grip the viewer, and then inspire the viewer to seek their own unique discoveries in each image. Each piece is an experiment in numinous intervention. The sensitive viewer completes the experiment."
