Rakhis for Friendship Bracelet Making Workshop
Based in the Hindu celebration of Raksha Bandhan, the occasion means the tie or knot of protection, where Raksha stands for the protection and Bandhan signifies the verb to tie. Together, the custom symbolizes the eternal love of the brother- sister relationship. Sisters tie beautiful amulets made of strings adorned with ornate decorations on the wrists of brothers to express affection. Brothers, in return, pledge to uphold the sibling bond by protecting their sisters from any difficulty that comes their way in life. This custom has evolved in modern times to connect communities of different religious and cultural backgrounds. Through this guided activity, these beautiful creations will help you express your love and friendship for the persons who hold a special place in your heart.

Gourds Transformed Into Birdhouses
Gourds make great birdhouses. They are strong, well-liked by the birds, and look really cool hanging outside in a tree or attached to a pole. You may also choose to transform a gourd into a piece of art or a musical instrument. Gourds have been used throughout history in many different cultures and continue to be used today.

Degas and the Laundress: Women, Work and Impressionism
A docent-led tour of impressionist artist Edgar Degas' representation of Parisian laundresses. These working class women were a visible presence in the city, washing and ironing in shops open to the street or carrying heavy baskets of clothing. Their job was among the most difficult and poorly paid at the time, forcing some laundresses to supplement their income through sex work. Degas created about 30 depictions of laundresses, a selection of which is united for the first time in this exhibition.
