Biography
Being a creative thinker and making art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. In 1981 I attended Kent State University and received a B.F.A in painting; I continued my education at Case Western Reserve and the Cleveland Institute of Art where I earned my MA in art education and studied jewelry and metals. I have been a practicing artist educator for the last 33 years. I am currently the head of the art department at Shaker Heights High School and have been teaching visual art at Shaker for the last 17 years. I also taught visual arts at Maple Heights High School for 9 years and Bellaire School for 5 years. It has brought me great joy to see so many young people fall in love with making art as I did as a young adult.
I have worked in many mediums that have included; oil painting, watercolor, acrylic, pastels, printmaking and jewelry and metals. My most current work has been using acrylic paints and Doc Martin Dyes with compressed charcoal and pastels. I have been working on a series that focuses on new beginnings as I start a new chapter of my life as an empty nester. I have always been drawn to using nature as an inspiration to my work. I love to explore the simple beauties in an organic object and discover how I can put my current thoughts and feelings into the pieces. I am not sure where my work will take me next but it is my hope that I can have many more years to express myself through my art making practices.
